London and EU negotiate new timetable

British and European representatives are reported to be negotiating in secret a plan to extend the transition period of Brexit, whereby the United Kingdom would be subject to EU rules beyond the 21 months so far agreed to, according to the website of The Guardian . The manoeuvre is intended to give time to find a solution to the issue of the Irish border. If accepted, the UK would be unable to alter any of the terms of the agreement inside the stipulated period and could be required to pay extra compensation.
