BBVA earns €4.3 billion by September
BBVA, one of the banks with the largest market shares in Catalonia after incorporating many local savings banks, including the second largest group by volume, Catalonia Caixa, earned €4.3 billion in the first nine months of 2018, 25.3% more than in the same period last year. Despite some recent losses due to currency depreciation in some of the countries where the group operates, the gains are explained by recurring income, expenditure containment and capital gains from the sale of BBVA Chile for €633m.
