Civil servants walk out of negotiations
Unions representing civil servants left the negotiating table yesterday when they heard the government’s proposal to return the pending payments corresponding to 2013 and 2014 over a period of eight years, a timetable that they believe is an “insult” and before leaving the meeting announced actions and did not rule out calling for strikes. The outstanding pays covering extras and holiday pay for the period amount to €1.1 billion, and the Generalitat had proposed returning the amount in instalments. Last year the Generalitat had agreed to pay out part of the 2013 debt but so far had not done so. Representing the Generalitat public service administration, Annabel Marcos said it was a “feasible calendar”.
