Twenty-five years of independent film
“Twenty-five years defending creative independence, diversity, innovation, freedom, commitment and reflection.” This, say the organisers, are the concepts underlying L’Alternativa film festival, which has screened some 5,000 independent films over its 25 editions. “We have spent 25 years providing visibility to film that gets few opportunities,” says the festival’s co-director, Cristina Riera, who adds that in that time “the panorama has changed a lot. The way of producing is different and there’s now more creative freedom.”
Barcelona’s Festival of Independent Film opens tomorrow with the screening, in the CCCB, of Entre dos aguas, the film that won director Isaki Lacuesta a Golden Shell award at this year’s San Sebastian film festival. What will follow is an intense week, until November 18, with the screening of some 200 films from 30 countries, as well as the presence of 70 guest directors and numerous related activities.
