POINT MADE

From hope to disappointment

Many French voters believed Macron’s promises of a thorough reform of French politics, which would reunite a divided population. However, 100 days into his government, disappointment is the resounding note from his citizens. If there was any doubt about how disconnected the president was from the average Frenchman, this was dispelled on Saturday, when an unprecedented number of people took to the street to oppose his increases in fuel taxes. They called him the “president for the rich”, due to a perceived lack of empathy for those who struggle to make it to the end of the month. This massive protest, coordinated through social media, has challenged him to respond the concerns of the real France.
