Heavy rains batter Girona and Empordà, causing travel chaos

This weekend was marked by flooded fields, fallen trees and electrical poles, rivers bursting their banks and houses cut off from civilization due to the accumulation of rain water in the Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and the Gironès counties, which led to a near collapse of the transport network. In Figueres 210 litres of water fell per square meter and main roads were closed. In La Bisbal, the usually dry river Daró raged through the city centre, moving 500 cubic metres of water per second between 10 and 11am on Sunday, almost touching bridges, at 4.5m high.
