Local businesses to reign on day after Black Friday?

Local businesses want to take advantage of the drive and popularity of Black Friday, which is to take place next Friday 23 this year, to assert themselves. Retail.cat, a small business holders’ association, is planning to make the Saturday after Black Friday “Shop Local Day”. The idea, which, like Black Friday, comes from the US, is to raise awareness about the importance of shopping locally and to give local businesses more visibility. Joan Carles Calbet, president of Retail.cat, explained that it isn’t about discounts or anything like that, but about supporting local businesses.

Retail.cat recalls: “In the United States, Black Friday was established in the seventies, the day after Thanksgiving and became one of the biggest sales days of the year, in 2005 Cyber Monday, which focused on E-commerce promotions, was established, and also become one of the biggest sales days, and finally, between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, a day to support local businesses was born.” Calbet stated: “in 2015, Obama and his family went to several local shops. In the US they realized that the small business cannot be underestimated, as it is very important for the local economy and here it is the same.” The proposal has been made and Retail.cat is now awaiting the involvement of the authorities.
