Nissan boss arrested for tax evasion

One of the most powerful and prestigious executives in Japan was arrested yesterday for alleged financial misconduct. Carlos Ghosn has already been interrogated by the police at the request of the Japanese prosecutor, and Nissan headquarters have been searched. Nissan’s board of directors is expected to meet this Thursday to dismiss him.

The case has come to light due to an internal investigation into the Japanese automotive group carried out in recent months. “Misconduct” has been detected on the part of Ghosn and Greg Kelly, another of Nissan’s senior executives, who is also to be dismissed. Nissan released a statement revealing that, both of them appear to have understated their income on financial statements. Nissan also said: “Other significant acts of misconduct have also been discovered, such as the use of company goods for personal use.”
