Activist Liudmila Alekséieva, dead in Russia at 91

Russia’s longest serving and best known defender of human rights, Soviet ex-dissident, Liudmila Alekséiva, died yesterday, in Moscow, at age 91, according to the Presidential Council of Russia for Civil Society and Human Rights. Recipient of many prizes, including the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, she was always very critical of Vladimir Putin.
