Duterte wants name change for Philippines

Rodrigo Duterte, President of the Philippines, has said he intends to change the name of the country because of the name’s colonial connotations. The archipelago was named in 1543 in honour of the then future king of Spain. “I do not have a particular name yet, but I would like to change it because it was named after King Philip of Spain” said Duterte.
