Visiting a town and its local area no longer has to be boring for the little ones. Many town councils around the country have come up with initiatives that make discovering the town fun and entertaining for the whole family. The Costa Brava town of Palafrugell is one of them.

In order to make the most of your time there, Palafrugell is encouraging visitors to do up to 30 different and unique experiences that will allow you to get to know all its nooks and crannies, along with those of the nearby towns of Calella, Llafranc, Tamariu and Llofriu. The activities can be done all year round and are split into five categories to suit all tastes and needs: “Fit”, “I am an artist”, “Exploring”, “In the frame” and “Relax”.

“Visitors or residents themselves will find all kinds of fun activities, and discover a different way to get to know the town and its main points of interest,” says the local Institute for Economic Promotion, which is the organisation behind the project.

“The idea arose from demands by many visitors to our five tourist offices. Many of them were looking for family activities, and so in the end we decided to group them together in one brochure.,” they add.

In addition, the activities are a good option to do in these times of Covid. “Although we removed the offer during the lockdown, they are ideal activities to do right now, as most of them are outdoors, and can be done either individually or with the group of people in your bubble.”

Among the highlights are visiting the dolmen of Can Mina dels Torrents, watching the sunset from the Sant Sebastià de la Guarda cape, drawing the profile of the Formigues Islands, following a section of the coastal path, finding the sundial on Passeig del Canadell or visiting the Teresina sculpture market.

Experiences in cultural spots are also included, such as finding the cork football in the Cork Museum or discovering the authentic fountain pen that the great Catalan writer Josep Pla wrote his books with, providing a good excuse to visit the local museums.

To take part in the 30 experiences, all you have to do is download the brochure or request it at any tourist office in the town. What’s more, a reward awaits anyone adventurous enough to complete all of them.

ENJOY THE CAP ROIG BOTANICAL GARDEN
One of the best options for nature lovers is the experience that proposes contemplating the local landscape from the Formigues viewpoint in the Botanical Garden of Cap Roig, where you can also discover around 800 botanical spaces with plants from around the world, and sculptures from renowned national and international artists.
TO THE CORK MUSEUM
Finding the cork football in the Cork Museum (Museu del Suro), counting the sculptures in Plaça de Can Mario, or drawing the Dipòsit Modernista are some of the most interesting activities among the 30 experiences for discovering Palafrugell.
THE IBER TOWN OF SANT SEBASTIÀ DE LA GUARDA
Another activity is visiting the ancient Iber settlement of Sant Sebastià de la Guarda de Palafrugell, which dates from the 6th to 1st centuries BC. In addition, the site offers some fantastic panoramic views of the town.
