Wine route through...Terra del Cava

In the morning:

Caves Olivé Batllori (Subirats, Alt Penedès)

In this wooded corner of the Penedès region, 17 million years ago there was a lake inhabited by crocodiles and other animals that are long since extinct but which nevertheless left traces of their passing. This is the paleontological site of Els Casots, one of the treasures hidden on the Olivé Batllori estate.

Olivé Batllori also has a lot of history, as there has been a winemaking tradition on the estate since the 17th century. Meanwhile, the vineyards sit alongside the 10th century castle of Subirats, and an Iberian village dating back to the 2nd century BC.

Today, the winery is housed in a magnificent modernist building which is surrounded by a privileged natural environment, and with magnificent views of Montserrat mountain.

The values that Batllori aims to convey are the caring, sharing and enjoying shown by the family matriarch, Antonieta, and the winery’s philosophy is a tribute to her.

Olivé Batllori has been specialising in the production of quality cavas since 1945. They currently produce five cavas and two wines, one white and one red.

They offer guided visits for individuals and groups (with reservation) and other activities for visitors to enjoy the estate, which include explanations and tasting of the wines and cavas.

For lunch:
Mirador de les Caves (Subirats)

In the heart of Penedès, surrounded by nature and vineyards, the Mirador de les Caves overlooks the plain. Around the restaurant there is a terrace – El Bosquet del Mirador – ideal for enjoying a coffee after meal while taking in some of the best views the Penedès region has to offer. In the lower area, there is a banquet hall with a large garden, and a large car park at the entrance of the estate.

The union of a unique environment of a spectacular natural landscape and good food is at the heart of what this restaurant has to offer. The meals are made only with local quality products and a speciality of the house is cuina a la brasa, the technique so popular in Catalonia of roasting on an open fire. The restaurant’s decoration is also a feature, inspired as it is by the natural elements of the land and the vineyard, while the venue’s large windows mean the diner is always accompanied by the constantly changing landscape.
