Shubertiada

Made for lovers of Schubert’s music

Events to celebrate Franz Schubert’s music, known as Schubertiads, date back to the 19th century, when the composer’s friends and admirers gathered for concerts in homes in Vienna. In 1992, the Joventuts Musicals de Figueres group decided to hold the first Schubertiad in Spain, as part of the international music festival in Vilabertran. Eight concerts are scheduled each year, featuring Lieder recitals – the genre with a vocalist and a piano of which Schubert is the master – chamber music and piano recitals. In all, the festival has 23 concerts this year, with such names as Roger Padullés, Julia Kleiter, Christian Blackshaw, Juliane Banse, Konstantin Krimmel (pictured), and Johanna Wallroth.
