Wine route through... Priorat

In the morning:

Celler Gritelles (Cornudella de Montsant)

Celler Gritelles explores the uniqueness of the best vineyards in the north-east of Montsant, in the Priorat region. They select the vineyards that best express the characteristics of the climate and the diversity of the land so that they transfer the personality and complexity of each vineyard and each vintage to the wine.

The MACABEU grape variety is the elegance of the purest yellow. The first mention of the Macabeu variety dates back to a text by Lluís Ponç d’Icard from 1564.

VEDRENYES - MACABEU MONOVARIETAL. Harvested manually and given different treatments in order to eke out all the expressions of Macabeo. It is a wine with its own personality that conveys the best of its varietal and landscape aromas. First, the subtle aromas of white floral notes along with hints of aniseed and green apple. It has an attractive and seductive young character and stands out for its freshness and mild acidity.

MANOU - BLACK GARNATCHA AND CARINYNA. Harvested manually at the end of September. A wine with a marked personality, bold and exuberant, with a strong aromatic presence and a lot of complexity.

GRITELLES CARINYENA OLD VINEYARDS • 1153. Harvested manually at the beginning of October. Alcoholic fermentation with skins for 21-24 days. Wine full of life, bottled with minimal leakage. Intense red colour with violet reflections.

Guided visits for individuals and groups.

For lunch:
El Cairat (Falset, Tarragona)

A spot of purity and character inland from the Costa Daurada. El Cairat began as a cafeteria in 1984, a place where exhibitions, informal meetings and social gatherings were held around a well stocked table. In 1992, Juli and Mercè converted the cafe into a restaurant serving Mediterranean and Catalan signature cuisine. El Cairat carefully prepares local produce that reflects a love for the land and its fruit, such as olive oil and wine - including an extensive list of wines from both the DOQ Priorat and the DO Montsant appellations.

Farmers, winemakers and farmers supply El Cairat every day with vegetables, cheeses, meat, fruit, oil and other seasonal products, such as Priorat mushrooms, Vilella Baixa sobrassada, Falset saffron, cherries, figs and truffles.
