Delicious treats for Easter and Lent

For those with a sweet tooth there are fairs featuring bunyols and honey, while savoury products on display include cheese, peas and snails, with olive oil and herbs thrown in

All April. Maresme pea fair

One of the traditional products from Maresme are peas and throughout April Caldes d'Estrac celebrates the pulse in a gastronomic fair that includes most of the town's restaurant. La Pesolada has become an annual local fixture and this year it is celebrating its 25th edition.

April 3 & 4. Mercat del Brunyol

If we had to choose one sweet from Baix Empordà, it would have to be brunyols, which fill the local cake shops during Lent. At Easter in Sant Feliu de Guíxols the Mercat del Brunyol gives visitors a chance to try lots of original varieties and enter a brunyol-making contest.

April 25 & 26. Fira del Cargol

Since the 18th century, Sentmenat has dedicated the fourth weekend of April to the Festa del Cargol. This fair promoting the local snails allows visitors to try before they buy, as well as taking advantage of snail-based dishes served in the town's participating restaurants.

April 18 & 19. Fira de la Mel i l'Oli

It is hard to imagine a world without honey, as its use in cookery goes back centuries. Every year, the town of Perelló has a fair dedicated to the locally produced honey. The fair also gives visitors the chance to discover the area's excellent olive oil.

April 26. Fira de les herbes

Aromatic and medicinal herbs, since 2004, have been the focus of the Fira de les Herbes de Peratallada in the town of Forallac. On this day every year, both dried and fresh herbs of all varieties are available in stalls, as well as products, such as liquors, made with herbs.
