In the home of Shakespeare

Join us on a three-day trip to London, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon

Three days, three iconic English destinations. From May 14 to 16, Catalonia Today will travel to the UK on a trip that will take in the cities of London, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon, the latter in the year commemorating the 400th anniversary of the death of Stratford's most famous son, the playwright William Shakespeare.

Readers and subscribers of Catalonia Today, members of the English Culture Club, even their friends and family, everyone is welcome to join us for a few days in England, where we will be staying in a London hotel and visiting the university city of Oxford as well as Shakespeare's birthplace. The group will be accompanied by a guide at all times, with all the flights, local transport and accommodation included in the package.

After arriving on May 14, the group will be taken to a three-star hotel in London, and a chance to explore one of the world's great capital cities. The next day, after breakfast (included), the group will be off to Oxford to visit the so-called City of Dreaming Spires, famous for its ancient university colleges and medieval architecture.

Later in the day, we'll be taken on to Stratford-upon-Avon for the full Shakespeare experience. The home of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) –one of the world's most prestigious theatre companies– there will be plenty of opportunity for us to visit one of the RSC's theatres, and even take in a play, to stop by Shakespeare's house to see where the Bard was born and to soak up the atmosphere of this picturesque town that has managed to preserve its Elizabethan charm. A nice pint in one of its old pubs or a cup of tea in one of its quaint tea rooms also sounds like a good idea. At the end of the day, a coach will take us back to the hotel in London for a final opportunity to spend an evening in the UK capital.

On the last day –May 16– the group will be taken back to the airport to catch the flight home to Barcelona.

We are still organising this unique chance to visit some of England's key tourist sites with a group of friends and a great opportunity to practise our English. However, if you are interested in coming with us, do not hesitate to contact us by email (ecclub@cataloniatoday.cat) for further information.

A Mecca for admirers of the Bard

As the birthplace of the world's best-loved playwright, William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon is a key tourist destination, attracting five million visitors a year. This year, the town takes on special importance as it is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Founded in the 12th century, Stratford cannot be separated from its famous son, and its status as a Mecca for Shakespeare admirers goes back to when actor David Garrick built the first theatre in 1769. Today, Stratford is the home of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), the illustrious theatre company founded by Peter Hall in 1961. Apart from the RSC's main theatre, the company runs the smaller Swan Theatre, modelled after an original Elizabethan theatre and refurbished in 2010.
