Activists try to block far-right event
A group of anti-fascist protestors attempted to prevent an event organised in Girona last night, by Borbonia, Vox, the Partido Popular and the Plataforma per Catalunya (PxC), intended to celebrate 40 years of the Spanish Constitution. According to the collective Doctors for the Republic, 15 Catalan Police officers and 3 demonstrators required medical attention. The first altercation took place at 9:30am, when the anti-fascists attempted to dismantle the barricades set up to contain far-right attendees during their event later in the day. The event was able to go ahead, with representatives from these far-right, sexist and openly racist groups chanting “Puigdemont to prison” and praising “commandos” who remove yellow solidarity ribbons from public spaces. CUP councillor Lluc Sallelas lamented the fact that “Mossos end up having to defend the extreme right, and fascists”.
