Seaside delicacies in the month of June

Fish soup, sardines and anchovies, paella and king prawns all feature in this month's local food festivals with rice and spices to top off a host of local fish and seafood dishes

All June. Jornades del Suquet

The Jornades Gastronòmiques del Suquet de Peix in Blanes is a celebration of the local fish stew that has taken place in the seaside town for the past seven years. During the festival, which lasts the whole month, local restaurants serve their own versions of the traditional dish

Until June 14. Celebrating oily fish

The health benefits of oily fish, such as sardines and anchovies are now well known, and until mid-June, the seaside town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols has a campaign for what is known in Baix Empordà as peix blau, with the participation of different local restaurants

June 25-28. Tasta Mar

On the final weekend of June begins Tasta Mar in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, a gastronomy festival that celebrates the best fish the Ebre region has to offer. Over the weekend, local participating restaurants offer a variety of fish dishes especially made for the celebration.

June 7. Aplec de l'Arròs

Alella is best known for its wine, but for more than 40 years, on the second Sunday in June, the Maresme town hosts the Aplec de l'Arròs, with rice as the main star. The festival includes cookery workshops and paella-making contests in which the whole family can take part.

June 13. Mercat d'Espècies

Aromatic herbs, medicinal plants and exotic spices are the focus of Argençol's Mercat d'Espècies, which celebrates its 6th edition on June 13. It is an opportunity to discover new and unique aromas and flavours that can transform just about any homemade recipe.

Until June 28, a score of restaurants in Alcanar, Cases d'Alcanar and Alcanar Platja will take part in the 4th edition of the Jornades Gastronòmiques del Llagostí, a festival dedicated to the local king prawns. Learn how the seafood delicacy is caught and prepared.
