An unusual situation ahead of 27S

With just eighty-six days until the 27-S elections, the country finds itself in a very unusual situation. On the eve of what will inevitably be plebiscite elections and show how many Catalans are in favour of independence, at present it is not known what the candidate lists are, nor candidates' formulas, or the leaders of those lists, or even which candidates will run on the lists; and neither do we know what degree of complicity or unity there will be between them.

The exceptional situation of a country that wants to become a state most probably explains this state of affairs, with all traditional political schema broken due to the significance of the moment. The clearest evidence of this are the fractures suffered by various Catalan political parties in recent months. Having acknowledged this exceptional situation, however, with just over two months to the elections it is to be hoped that it is not drawn out any longer than necessary and the political groups clarify their intentions and give us names as soon as possible.

The political class cannot permanently transfer its responsibilities to the pro-sovereignty organisations and parties cannot constantly make proposals intended to make themselves look good and the others look bad. After the pro-sovereignty organisations have this weekend clarified what role they want to play in 27-S, those political parties in favour of independence must clarify their strategies (the rest are already doing this). Dragging out the situation is unnecessarily prolonging the fatigue and bewilderment of many voters.
