12 suspects arrested in relation to Tunis killings

Tunis police have arrested 12 people for their alleged involvement in the jihadist attack that killed 38 foreign tourists and wounded 39 at a hotel in the town of Susa a week ago and are now investigating human trafficking mafias in Libya in relation to the events.

Security sources confirmed that those arrested are suspected of having given logistical support to the murderer, Saifdin Rezgui, who gunned down people for half an hour on the beach in front of the hotel Riu before being shot dead by police.

“This is a group that has been trained in Libya,” said Lazhar Alremi, Nidaa Tounes party leader. The same sources do not rule out more arrests in the coming days related to mafia networks that smuggle jihadist volunteers and immigrants trying to get to the coasts of Europe.

According to the Tunisian authorities, Rezgui received military training in Libya on the same dates as the two murderers who on 18 March killed 22 foreign tourists in the Bardo Museum in Tunis. It was yesterday confirmed that 30 Britons were killed in the attack in Susa.
