POINT MADE
More cinema in Catalan
Despite the plan promoted by Ferran Mascarell as minister to try to improve the balance between Catalan and Spanish dubbing in the cinema, Catalan remains very much a minority. Most probably original language cinema with subtitleswould be the best option to reinforce languages like English or French, but some dubbing will always be needed to consolidate the tools necessary to foster Catalan. Culture minister Santi Vila has told the ACN that faced with the indifference of distributors and most exhibitors, the government will in June sign an agreement to introduce 1200 films dubbed in Catalan. And if the US promoters resent Catalan in the cinemas? In that case, their competition, Filmin, might tip the balance.
