Ministry of Interior prolongs police stay

The exceptional police operation known as Copernicus, which entailed the Spanish Ministry of the Interior sending police to Catalonia to prevent the referendum on October 1, will continue until at least October 25. Prior to the imminent deadline on what was already the third extension, Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido yesterday issued a verbal order to extend the operation for seven more days for a fourth time to coincide with the application of article 155, which could begin tomorrow.
