And if you were locked up?

ANC, Omnium and CDR Osona and set up cells in the main square of Vic in an act of solidarity with Sánchez and Ciuxart before it visits other towns

The afternoons drag on into endless sunsets and nights that never end. The hours eat away little by little inside the prison and it is difficult to cope. Exactly one month ago today, Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sanchez were deprived of their freedom and 13 days ago eight ministers of the government followed them and have and are still there. Can you even begin to imagine what it is like to be in the shoes of a political prisoner, locked in a cell? That is what ANC, Omnium, along with the CDR Osona are inviting the public to experience in a singular act of solidarity.

The interactive programme called A Nation Imprisoned will begin this Saturday at 6 pm in the main square of Vic with two individual cells 6m x 2.40m made with recycled materials. “It is no hotel room, and there will be a stream of cold air, just the environment needed to make people realise what it is like for an innocent person to be locked up,” explained Carles Valls yesterday at the presentation.

Anyone who wants to will be able to spend between two and four hours inside the cells and the proposal is to keep them occupied 24 hours a day seven days a week, “Christmas and New Year also, if necessary, until the prisoners are free.” In Vic the protest will be operative for three weeks and then move on to other towns and cities in Catalonia. Olot has already confirmed it will take part. Other cities like Reus and Valls have shown interest.

There will be a security roster of which the police are aware and volunteers will be always present to be on hand in the case any problems should arise.

And what is the aim? “To make sure that no one forgets, ” says Valls.
