Call for economic programmes

The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Miquel Valls, yesterday asked political parties to define their plans to boost the economy and welfare in Catalonia should they win the elections. During a press conference, Valls lamented that the political debate is not including specific proposals for “priorities” such as unemployment, reducing inequalities and fostering the internationalisation and digitalisation of businesses.

Valls considers that despite some areas of geopolitical conflict, the international environment is very favourable to growth and there are good prospects for increasing domestic demand. However, he expressed concern that if the post-election scenario in Catalonia does not provide “sufficient stability and confidence” for business and citizens, that could adversely affect both investment and consumption, and will also “have an impact on credit and financial conditions.”
