Those rejecting independence top the 50% mark for 1st time

The number of people rejecting independence (53.9%) has risen by 10.3%, surpassing the 50% barrier for the first time according to the Generalitat’s statistical bureau survey published yesterday by the CEO. Support for independence (40.8%), is 13% behind, dropping to a historic low with a decline of almost 8%. The survey shows that support for autonomy is higher than support for independence although about 55% want to process to continue. However, only 19% of those surveyed are committed to taking the unilateral route, while the rest prefer to seek bilateral agreements with the Spanish government (35.9%). A further 20.8% said they wished to abandon the process and opt for constitutional reform and a new model of financing.

The survey, which was carried out between January 10 and 30 also questioned participants regarding their intention to vote if elections were to be held at present. C’s and ERC would be tied for seats at 33-35 each while ERC has made a marked percentage gain and JxCat has receded. The CUP would double the number of seats while Ines Inés Arrimadas would lose between one and two seats and the PSC would lose one. Xavier Domenech’s Catalunya en Comú would retain the seats they have and the PP could lose one seat.
