Sagrada Família aims to boost security

The head of security of the Sagrada Família, Marc Martínez, yesterday announced that the Barcelona church is to strengthen its security measures after intruders entered, filmed themselves, and published the videos on social media. The incident took place at night on March 9, when a group of foreign youngsters bypassed security at the church, entering and climbing one of the towers. Martínez, who said that it took local police 40 minutes to arrive after they were called, admitted that the incident has forced the church to review its security measures. “It is clear that the speed of reaction and the number of officers sent was not sufficient,” he said. This year alone, there have been eight unauthorised attempts at entering the Sagrada Família. Last year there were a total of 25. The Catalan police have begun an investigation to try and identify the youngsters involved in the incident.
