Seat to produce two new models a year until 2020

Seat wants to make the most of the momentum of 2017, a year of record growth and results, to go on the offensive by launching a new model every six months until 2020, the year in which it will launch its much awaited 100% electric model with a range of 500 km, and continue to explore new types of the “crossover” range of vehicle.

This was confirmed yesterday in Madrid by CEO and chairman Luca de Meo, during the presentation of the company’s financial statement of the previous year. Although the Martorell plant is currently operating at 95%, these goals will have immediate positive repercussions and it is expected that in the coming weeks “hundreds of employees” will be taken on to strengthen production.

Seat revenues increased 11.1% and the company made a net profit of €281 million, a 21.3% increase during the last financial year.

The first two new vehicles off the production line will be the newly announced Tarraco and the Seat Cupra Ateca, which will begin selling later this year. Looking ahead, two variants of the new generation of the Seat Leon, one hybrid, will be a prelude to the first all-electric model, which will be manufactured at the factory in Zwickau, Germany. Finally, we will see the company’s first CUV, a more urban style SUV.
