Catalan loses 300,000 speakers in 10 years

In 10 years, from 2003 to 2013, the last year for which there are figures, Catalan has lost 300,000 speakers in Catalonia. Yet, the number of young people that habitually use Catalan, between 2008 and 2013, rose from 31.5% to 36.4%. The figures come from the InformeCAT 2018 report, which was made public yesterday by the Plataforma per la Llengua, the NGO that promotes the use of Catalan. Another figure shows that over 70% of people change language depending on the situation.
