Union denounces Catholic church
Unió de Pagesos, the main farmer’s union in Catalonia, has published a report of properties in the areas of Bages, Anoia and Berguedà in which it claims that the Catholic diocese of Vic and Solsona have officially registered properties as their own which they believe belong to the community. The Chruch, the unions say, used subterfuge to register the properties and a decree from the Franco dictatorship which gave the Church the right of ownership to churches and religious buildings. The law was updated by the Aznar government and when it finally changed in 2015, the ecclesiastical authorities made last minute registrations of numerous properties before the law came into effect.
