POINT MADE

“Go back to Tel Aviv”

The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office has finally opened an investigation into the anti-semitic insults levelled at philosopher and writer Alain Finkielkraut on Saturday, when he hit the streets joining a “yellow vests” demonstration. A child of Polish immigrants, Finkielkraut, controversial for his defense of reactionary positions on French identity, was besieged by a group that called him a “zealous Zionist disgrace” and told him to go “back to Tel Aviv “. Ignominious incidents like this, all too common in Europe, take us back to the darkest periods in our history. Taking advantage of this to criminalize the movement of the yellow vests, as some have done, is oversimplification, and not the way to deal with them.
