Landslides detected as result of tests
The nuclear test carried out on Sunday by the North Korean regime could have triggered several landslides in the mountainous area of Punggye-ri where this and previous tests have taken place. A combined South Korean and US geological research centre has compared images obtained via satellite the day previous to the test with images taken afterwards which exhibit “surface disturbance, including numerous existing areas of gravel and limestone fields” near Mount Mantap in Punggye-ri. The underground explosion caused an earthquake of magnitude 6.3, according to the US Geological Survey, which was followed by another tremor of 4.1, which could have caused landslides and released radioactive material into the atmosphere.. Meanwhile, South Korea announced that with the continuing threat , the US has deployed a battery of controversial missiles to shield its South Korean ally.
