Judiciary calls for minister to resign
Spain’s seven associations of judges and prosecutors united yesterday to demand the resignation of Justice Minister Rafael Catalá, for his statements relating to the judge who issued a dissenting opinion in the sentencing of “La manada”, hinting that the judge concerned “has a problem that everyone knows about.” In a joint statement published by EFE, the four associations of judges and three prosecutors claim that the statement made by Catalá represents an intrusion by the administration into judicial decisions, when, in their view, he should limit himself to “respect and ensure the functioning of institutions.” They also say that such statements can confuse the public and are more political in content.
