Cardinal on trial for covering up child abuse
Cardinal Philippe Barbarin appeared in court in Lyon yesterday for covering up child abuse committed over 25 years ago by a priest he kept on in positions of authority in various parishes. Five other church officials are also on trial. The Vatican claimed diplomatic immunity for Spanish cardinal Luis Francisco Ladaria who was accused of complicity in the cover-up.
