Wine route through Tarragona

In the morning:

Mas d’en Baiget (L’Albiol, Tarragona)

In the northeastern area of the Baix Camp region and below the mountains of the village of Albiol stands the farm of Mas d’en Baiget, made up of areas of vineyards, almond trees, hazelnut trees, olive trees and an old farmhouse that is home to a family long dedicated to the land.

The two brothers, Joan Maria and Miquel, have always worked the vineyard organically. The Mas d’en Baiget estate has a total of 4.4 ha of vines rooted in slate and red clay soils, at an altitude of between 500 and 550 m, where they have planted the grape varieties of Ull de l’Ebre, Black Grenache, White Grenache, Muscat, Macabeu and Parellada.

In 2000, their father and grandfather encouraged them to get involved in family project, and so they stopped selling their grapes and began making wine. They planted the three hectares of vineyard they call Vinya Jove and built their own winemaking business on the estate around the old farmhouse that bears the winery’s name: Mas d’en Baiget. The philosophy of the brothers is to make wines with minimal intervention and using select grapes from their vineyards. The varieties intended for white and rosé wine are harvested in the morning and the grapes are pressed straight away in order to keep them fresh and enhance the extraction of aromas and set the authentic flavour of the wine.

For lunch:
Sanromà Restaurant (Castellvell del Camp, Tarragona)

Just over two kilometres from the centre of Reus, at the entrance to Castellvell del Camp, the Sanromà Restaurant has been offering a unique gastronomic experience for over three decades. The Sanromà Restaurant offers meals made with locally sourced, seasonal products, which are prepared with the oldest traditions of Catalan cuisine, and a touch of innovation. To vegetables from their own garden and a selection of aromatic Mediterranean herbs that Grandma Rosa collects daily are added the best meat, fish and seafood from local suppliers. The result is a culinary journey to rediscover the best of Catalan gastronomic culture. The Sanromà Restaurant also has some of the best wines, from the neighbouring region of Priorat. The customer can choose from an extensive list of more than 250 wines, mainly from the DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant. Agustí Sanromà is in charge of choosing the wines and pairing them with the food to the taste of each customer.
